  • Selection of Projects

    • Recent work for the Media Trust (2009) evaluated gaps in the media and communications capacity of black and minority ethnic, refugee and migrant, isolated rural, and faith-based voluntary organizations, assessed their media training needs and made recommendations for increasing their influencing capacity.
    • Our study for London Refugee Voice (LRV), a consortium of over 150 refugee community organisations (RCOs), proposed practical strategies for increasing the voice of RCOs and their impact on policy and service provision for refugees and asylum seekers   A specific objective of the research was to investigate barriers to and opportunities for the meaningful participation of RCOs in strategic forums and networks in London.  LRV's Chair described the research as an important stepping stone to giving a meaningful voice to RCOs in regional policymaking.
    • The ‘Understanding the Stranger' project drew on the experience of practical initiatives across the UK to effect knowledge transfer between frontline organisations around local integration and cohesion and improve public services for asylum seekers and refugees.

Financial Inclusion of New Migrnats in Northern Ireland

We are currently working on this innovative project with Citizens Advice Belfast which is funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

ICAR is carrying out the research side to the project, interviewing 60 migrants in Northern Ireland about their access to financial services. In parallel to this, Citizens Advice is running a practical advice service specifically for migrants providing financial advice and training. ICAR is evaluating this practical initiative.
